SectorSurfer Strategy Performance

The performance of SectorSurfer's trend-following asset class rotation algorithms, as applied to UPS 401(k) funds, is depicted in the  chart below. Simply by determining which of the funds has leadership and owning only that fund for the next month SectorSurfer achieves the performance depicted by the yellow line on the chart. To better understand how SectorSurfer works, be sure to click each slide above (or its text title below each thumbnail) to review the topic's summary information. The chart below has numerous mouse-over hot spots that provide a brief popup text description of the chart object, and many chart objects can be clicked to link to a more complete description. For a more theoretical discussion, please review the Sector Rotation Theory page.

UPS Savings Plan Funds Overview
A Strategy is simply a group of mutual funds managed with a particular set of rules or algorithms. The UPS Savings Plan offers a set of 19 funds providing exposure to large cap, small cap, fixed income, government securities, international stocks, and ten Bright Horizon funds. By design, most of these funds are invested in a portfolio designed to replicate a specific index. These funds do not have assigned ticker symbols and their historic data is not directly available to providers of electronic market data for services such as SectorSurfer. However, each specified index does have a ticker symbol and does have available historic market data. SectorSurfer utilizes historic market data for these indices as proxy data for each of the UPS funds as specified below.

UPS Fund Name SectorSurfer Symbol Proxy Symbol and Name - Note 1
Gov. Short-Term Investment Fund U-GST PFSFX: Performa Short-Term Gov.-A
Bond Market Index Fund U-BND FBIDX: Fidelity US Bond Index
Balanced Fund (Equity, Fixed Income) U-BAL SSLBX: SSgA Life Solutions Balanced
S&P 500 Equity Index Fund U-SP5 SVSPX: SSgA S&P 500 Index Fund
S&P 400 Midcap Index Fund U-SP4 SP-MC: S&P 400 Midcap Index
Russell 2000 Index Fund U-R2K RUT-I: COBE Russell 2000 Index
EAFE International Index Fund U-INT BTAEX: DWS EAFE Index Fund
UPS - United Parcel Service Stock UPS - Note 2 UPS: United Parcel Service Stock
Stable Value Fund -- Note 3 -- no satisfactory proxy available
Bright Horizon Funds (10 versions) -- Note 4 -- no satisfactory proxy available

Note 1: While "proxy" funds are an excellent representation of UPS fund performance, they in fact are not exact. However, their character is well matched for providing the quality data needed for SectorSurfer's sector rotation algorithms.

Note 2: You may optionally customize this Strategy by adding UPS as one of its symbols. We did not include it as part of the Strategy because as an individual stock it has a more volatile character and is not contributive to overall performance.

Note 3: There is no satisfactory proxy fund for the UPS Stable Value Fund. However, its asset class is already sufficiently represented by U-GST, U-BND and by SectorSurfer's StormGuard feature. Thus, no worries.

Note 4: The Bright Horizon funds are all diversified combinations of the other funds, and as such are redundant and unnecessary within a SectorSurfer Strategy. Thus, no worries.

UPS Self-Managed Accounts
According to the UPS Savings Plan, a Self-Managed Account will allow you to invest a portion of your account in stocks, ETFs, bonds or mutual funds of your choice from any major U.S. securities exchange. This means you can make use of any of SectorSurfer's many high performance sector-based or country-based Pubic Strategies to provide even greater portfolio performance. Be sure to closely examine candidates for their trading fees and and minimum hold times as they do vary greatly between funds and between brokerages. It may not be practical to use particular kinds of mutual funds with your brokerage.

Retired?  Employed Elsewhere?  Over 591/2?
Upgrade your 401(k) to an IRA to Unleash SectorSurfer's True Sector Rotation Potential!

You can escape from the paltry performance of your 401(k)'s over-diversified funds by rolling them over into an IRA account where you'll have access to a wide variety of country and sector funds that will unleash the full performance potential of SectorSurfer's True Sector Rotation algorithms. Good returns are required to reduce "retirement risk," which is the risk at age 65 that your savings aren't sufficient and you may have to work longer or reduce your standard of living. While traditional diversification addresses the relatively short term investment risk, its paltry returns can lead to longer term retirement risk problems. Don't win a battle but lose the war.

We Believe:

• High performance investment software should be for everyone — not just big Wall Street firms.
• Diversification is not a justifiable reason to own poorly performing funds — they hurt your portfolio.
• Great investment advice isn't a fund sorting tool — it's automatically selecting this month's best fund.
